ValidityWhole Year

This programme has been crafted exclusively for the discerning solo traveller or couple who arrives already knowing what they want. It covers destinations that do not appear on the standard circuit, the ancient north, the forgotten west, and the wild east, visiting sites of genuine historical, spiritual and ecological significance, staying at properties chosen for their character and quality, and experiencing Sri Lanka as it rarely presents itself to the outside world

Your Day-by-Day Journey

Itinerary

  1. 01Day

    Arrival in Colombo

Your Luxora Serene representative greets you at Bandaranaike International Airport with a personalised welcome and a private transfer into Colombo. On arrival at Ishq Villa, check in and take time to settle into your surroundings. EARLY EVENING - Journey Briefing. Over drinks in the courtyard of Ishq Villa, your representative walks you through each destination, the key wildlife and cultural highlights to watch for, and practical notes for every stage of the journey ahead. WELCOME DINNER - Ministry of Crab, Colombo. One of Sri Lanka's most iconic fine-dining landmarks, celebrating the legendary local lagoon mud crab. Launched in 2011 by celebrated chef Dharshan Munidasa alongside Sri Lankan cricketing icons Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, it ranks among Asia's 50 Best Restaurants. A strict no-freezer policy means every catch is wild-caught, delivered daily, and served completely fresh. Your Stay · Ishq Villa, Colombo Designed by Geoffrey Bawa's protégé Channa Daswatta, Ishq is a four-suite private villa in Colombo blending Bawa's philosophy of dissolving interior-exterior boundaries. Features include a courtyard pool, rooftop Jacuzzi, rare book library, custom textiles, and one-of-a-kind antiques. Private chefs and butlers tailor meals perfectly. It feels like staying in an extraordinary private home.

    Wilpattu National Park

After breakfast, journey north to Wilpattu. On arrival you are welcomed with a cool drink and a comprehensive briefing from the in-house naturalist, covering the park's wildlife, its ecology, and what to anticipate over the next two days. Wilpattu National Park Sri Lanka's largest and oldest national park, and one of the most rewarding for the patient traveller. Wilpattu covers 1,317 square kilometres of dry-zone forest in the northwest, bisected by over 50 "villus" — sand-rimmed natural lakes that fill with rainwater and concentrate extraordinary wildlife. Unlike Yala, which receives enormous visitor numbers, Wilpattu remains unhurried, intimate, and genuinely wild. Leopards, sloth bears, Asian elephants, mugger crocodiles, barking deer, water buffalo, and over 200 bird species inhabit this park. The park has profound historical significance too: this is where Prince Vijaya, the legendary founding figure of Sinhalese civilisation, is said to have landed in the 6th century BC. LATE AFTERNOON · 3:00 PM — First Game Drive into Wilpattu. The afternoon drive is when crocodiles bask, deer feed, and the first leopards emerge between villus as the temperature drops. Your expert guide knows the park's terrain intimately — its circuits, its productive water bodies, and the individual animals that hold territories here. EVENING — Campfire Dinner Under the Stars. Return to camp for sundowners at the jungle bar, followed by dinner — Sri Lankan and international cuisine served al fresco beneath old-school kerosene lanterns. Stories, sightings, and the sounds of the forest, with a fully stocked bar throughout. Your Stay · Leopard Trails Tented Camp, Wilpattu Six air-conditioned safari-style canvas tents sit just inside the park, each with a king bed, en-suite and outdoor shower. The intimate, six-tent camp is fully all-inclusive—meals, game drives, park fees, and a stocked bar—led by expert guides including chief ranger Malmi. Nights are silent, punctuated only by the jungle.

  3. 03Day

    A Final Morning in Wilpattu

DAWN · 5:30 AM — Morning Game Drive. Leopard Trails' position at the park boundary places your jeep at the gate as it opens — a decisive advantage. The first hour of light is when leopards are most active, moving between villus and tree-lines. A picnic breakfast is then served in the field beside a villu as the mist lifts from the water — one of the truly memorable moments of this journey. MIDDAY — Lunch and Rest at Camp. Return to camp for a leisurely lunch. The central lounge tent, with its deep sofas, small wildlife library, and absolute quiet, is ideal for reading, reviewing photographs, or simply resting before the afternoon. DUSK — Guided Bush Walk & Grey Slender Loris Trail. The forests around camp are home to the extremely rare grey slender loris, a nocturnal primate found almost nowhere else in Sri Lanka. As darkness falls, your naturalist leads a quiet walk through the undergrowth in search of this elusive creature, while the jungle orchestra begins its evening performance around you.

  4. 04Day

    Mannar Island

After breakfast, journey to Mannar, one of the most compelling and overlooked destinations in Sri Lanka. An elongated island linked to the mainland by a causeway, fringed by vast lagoons and steeped in myth, archaeology, and birdlife of an almost surreal scale. This is where Sri Lanka's recorded history begins: Prince Vijaya, the legendary founder of the Sinhalese civilisation, is said to have first set foot here. Mannar draws over one million migratory birds each year 337 species in total making it one of the most important bird-migration points in all of South Asia. AFTERNOON · 2:00 PM - Ancient Baobab Forest, Mannar. Mannar is home to some of Asia's oldest and largest baobab trees, believed to have arrived over 1,000 years ago through ancient Indian Ocean trade. The largest has a 20.8-metre circumference and a hollow trunk you can stand inside a living symbol of the historic links between Africa, Arabia, India, and Sri Lanka. Thiruketheeswaram Temple. One of Sri Lanka's sacred Pancha Ishwarams, a Shiva temple believed to protect the island from the sea. Over 2,000 years old, it survived Portuguese destruction in the 16th century and remains a deeply atmospheric site, best visited early for morning puja. SUNSET · 5:00 PM - Adam's Bridge (Rama's Bridge). The chain of limestone shoals between Mannar and India is linked to the Ramayana as the bridge built by Rama's army to reach Lanka. Geologically it stood above sea level as recently as 500 years ago, making it a former land crossing. The view from Mannar is striking and unforgettable. Your Stay · Palmyrah House, Mannar Island Palmyrah House is a charming colonial-style retreat in northern Sri Lanka, set among Palmyrah groves, lagoons, and landscaped gardens. Powered by solar energy, it serves local northern cuisine and offers a 500-metre wetland boardwalk for birdwatching, star-gazing, and nature photography, with a resident naturalist in season

    Jaffna

EN ROUTE - Vankalai Bird Sanctuary. After breakfast, set out for Jaffna, pausing at Vankalai for flamingo watching. The sanctuary is Mannar's wildlife highlight, especially during flamingo season from November to late March, when hundreds of Greater Flamingos gather in the salt pans and wetlands to create stunning pink scenes at dusk. Even outside this season, the area remains rich in migratory birds, ducks, and rare species. Jaffna, Sri Lanka's northernmost city, is rich in Tamil Hindu culture, colonial history, and a cuisine unlike anywhere else on the island. Shaped by decades of conflict, it offers temples, islands, and culinary experiences that feel wholly distinct from the south, rewarding the traveller who seeks something deeper and more layered. AFTERNOON · 2:00 PM - Nallur Kandaswamy Temple. Jaffna's most sacred Hindu shrine, dedicated to Lord Murugan. Its striking Dravidian gopuram, rebuilt in the 18th century after Portuguese destruction, draws pilgrims year-round, and the 25-day festival each August ranks among the great Hindu festivals of South Asia. Morning and evening pujas offer a deeply atmospheric spiritual experience. EVENING · DINNER — Jaffna Crab Curry. A must-try cultural dish: lagoon mud crab cooked in a fiery, coconut-free gravy of roasted spices, tamarind, and curry leaves. Served with string hoppers or rice, it is darker, richer, and far hotter than southern Sri Lankan curries — a true culinary highlight. Your Stay · Jetwing Jaffna Jetwing Jaffna is a landmark luxury hotel in the north, rising seven storeys above the city with panoramic views of Jaffna, the lagoon, and distant islands. Its 55 rooms feature traditional northern decor, while the rooftop lounge and restaurant showcase the best of Jaffna’s cuisine, including unique Odiyal Kool.

    Jaffna - Islands & Coast

MORNING - Delft Island (Neduntheevu) Expedition. One of Sri Lanka's most extraordinary destinations, reached by ferry from Kurikkaduwan Jetty. The island is famous for its wild ponies descendants of Arabian horses brought by the Portuguese, with around 500 now roaming freely and also holds a giant baobab tree, a Dutch fort, a colonial lighthouse, a Portuguese church, and coral-stone ruins, all set in a silent, otherworldly landscape. LATE AFTERNOON - Casuarina Beach & the Bottomless Well. Casuarina is among the finest beaches in the north wide, pale, shaded by casuarina trees, with calm, shallow waters. Nearby, the Bottomless Well (Oori Kinaru) is a natural curiosity: a freshwater well on the coastline that stays full regardless of tide or season, drawing fresh water even as the sea surrounds it. Local legend holds it bottomless; the hydrology is no less intriguing. Visit in the late afternoon for the best light and fewest visitors. Your Stay · Jetwing Jaffna

After breakfast, proceed to Sigiriya, the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka one of the most concentrated areas of ancient civilisation anywhere in Asia. The dry-zone forests around Habarana and Sigiriya contain a 5th-century royal citadel of extraordinary ambition, the largest gathering of wild Asian elephants in the world, and daily village life that has been largely unchanged for centuries. This is Sri Lanka at its most historically resonant. MORNING - Habarana Village Cultural Tour. An immersive half-day in and around Habarana, visiting local potters, toddy tappers, paddy farmers, and traditional Ayurvedic practitioners. This is Sri Lanka at its most unguarded: communities at work in a landscape cultivated the same way for two millennia. The experience includes a village lunch with a local family, prepared over a wood fire in a courtyard garden — arguably the finest meal of the entire journey. As the afternoon cools, the jeep rolls into the forest. Habarana sits at the crossroads of one of Sri Lanka's most active elephant corridors herds moving freely between Minneriya, Kaudulla, and Eco Park through the surrounding forest.
